Katie Stipe has been fortunate to work in some of New York and the world’s most beloved cocktail bars. She learned her craft at Flatiron Lounge over ten years ago where she joined the ranks of talent that helped pioneer the modern cocktail movement. She later rejoined her mentor, Julie Reiner, in the opening of Clover Club in Brooklyn. She has flourished in bar concepts with spirit and region focused programs like the agave-centric Mayahuel & directed a Northern European-inspired beverage program at Vandaag. She’s worked behind the stick at some of Brooklyn’s favorite drinking holes such as The Shanty at NY Distilling Co., Prime Meats, Long Island Bar & Grand Army. Katie most recently worked with the Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group to lead the beverage team at La Sirena in the Maritime Hotel, Chelsea.
Katie has had the pleasure of working alongside some of the industry’s leading palates, professors & personalities. Her experience has allowed her to pursue a career in beverage consulting where she can focus on education, recipe & brand development and directing beverage programs. She has spearheaded beverage programs for hotels & high-volume concepts. For the past five years, Katie has been a resident mixologist for Diageo Global Spirits Company where she assists in corporate training regarding Mixology, technique & trends; recipe development for new innovation or benchmark Diageo brands; and directing beverage teams for large scale Diageo sponsored events.
Anyone that knows Katie in the field, knows her fondness for Sherry. Not surprising that it was Steve Olson who introduced her to the world of Sherry wine, Andalucía & it’s vibrant tapas culture. Over the years she has made efforts to educate consumers & industry professionals on what has been a misunderstood category. She has participated with Sherry related events at SherryFest, Spain’s Great Match, Sherry Week & En Rama Pop-Up. We now see across the United States the impact of Sherry awareness & education as it has experienced a revival & is being placed on just about every established cocktail bar menu in the nation. It has been a passion in Katie’s career to introduce Sherry through the vehicle of craft cocktails that reflect the wine’s diverse flavor profiles as well as express its versatility.
Katie’s recipes have been featured in numerous publications: PDT Cocktail book, Sherry, Imbibe, Cocktails on Tap, The Craft Cocktail Party, Mr. Boston, A Proper Drink, Punch and The NY Times. She has been a featured mixologist and/or panelist for James Beard House, Star Chefs, Taste of the Nation, Las Vegas Nightlife & Bar Show, Ultimate Spirits Challenge, Oslo Cocktail Conference, Heritage Radio Speakeasy and more.
